Palm Sunday 9 April 2017

This weekend, it is Palm Sunday.  Yes, it’s about Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, but it is actually so much more even if that were possible.  It is actually about our priority on God and where He wants us to be.  That’s what Jesus in His humanness struggled with in the Garden of Gethsemane when He asked about the cup of suffering being taken from Him, but also what He came to agree to before He we arrested.  For Him, as always in His incarnate walk, it was the Father first; ‘not my will but yours be done’.

So this is what I will be looking at this week especially since it is the season of Easter which is the absolute, paramount season in our Christian calendar and faith. This is a time for each of us to take seriously.  Yes, in the world, it’s a long weekend so an opportunity to ‘get away’ , but for Christians, it is one of the last times of festival that we have in this increasingly anti-Christian world, to celebrate our faith, particularly this lynch-pin of why we are Christians and why it is even possible to be one.  Without the death and resurrection of Jesus, there simply is no Christian faith.

So, as I say so often, and thankfully more and more of us are getting it, bring your Bibles along with you to church so you can get more and more familiar with God’s Word and let’s come together in fellowship, in love and care for one another. Most particularly, we can gather in our corporate worship of our amazing God who loves us passionately even to giving His own life in our place, shouting out ‘Hosanna!’ or similar.  What a cool time to be together with a group anywhere at any time in our lives; there’s nothing else to compare!
