12 February 2017

I, like us all with emails on our mailing list, saw the bit that Trisha forwarded to us about making an impact in our town* . It was a request from the Papakura Town Centre Manager asking for help to do some work in and around the centre of our town. It could involve painting, or picking up discarded rubbish or wash windows etc.  It also asked if we might be interested to get a group or groups up to 50 people, to volunteer for the day.  Apparently a BBQ will run at the end of the time for volunteers as well.

It struck me, that maybe someone (or a small group) in our fellowship might like to pick this up and run with it, getting together a whole bunch of us to show the community that FC does actually care and is interested in doing something for the community, no strings attached.  What do you think?

It reminds me of that video clip I once showed about a whole bunch of churches in California doing a similar thing together in one day in Sanoma County.  It had a huge impact on people in the community as church-folks were seen to be doing their bit to care for their town.

So what do you think?  Anyone willing to spearhead it for us all?  If so, please contact Trisha so we all work together and not all over the place.

* This is the information that was sent out in the email mentioned above.  It is from Tracy Shackleton, Papakura Town Centre Manager

We are holding a Town Centre Make over on Saturday the 25th of February from 8.30 am to 12 noon in Papakura Town Centre.  We are looking to paint, weed, pick up rubbish, tidy, wash windows and signs, sweep and generally give our wonderful town a makeover and spruce up   Are you able to assist ?  Can you or a group from your organisation join us on the day to volunteer a few hours?

There are a few ways that you can

       1.       Get a group together and sign up to volunteer to help out on the day.  This can be just one person from your group or up to 50.  We have identified areas around the town that need                          your help and can be adults and children.

  1.      If you can’t get a group together are you able to do a small donation towards our BBQ for our volunteers at the end of the day.  This could be a small monetary donation or it could         be  food for the BBQ or your donation could be put towards purchasing trees and plants to beautify the town.

It’s that great saying isn’t it that many hands make light work and with over 150 volunteers last time it was a quick and fun event and had our town looking smart and tidy for our community and visitors.   Can you speak to your team members and see if anyone would be keen to assist and if you care please feel free to contact myself, details below
